Ingredients for making Kovil Puliyodharai

Raw Rice- 2 cups
Tamarind - lemon sized
Coriander Seeds- 2tsp
Fenugreek Seeds - 10 seeds
Sesame Seeds- 2tsp
Channa Dhal- 4tsp
Dried Red chilly- 5-6
Peanuts- 1/4cup
Turmeric - 1tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
A sprig of Curry leaves
A pinch of hing
Salt as required.

Method for making Kovil Puliyodharai

1. Pressure cook the rice using 4 cups of water. Wait for 3 whistles. The rice should not be overcooked. Spread the cooked rice in a plate and allow to cool.

2. Heat a pan and fry Coriander seeds, Fenugreek seeds and add sesame seeds. Grind this in a mixer.

3. Next fry half  the peanuts, Channa dhal, Red chillies in little oil and grind coarsely.

4. Heat oil, splutter the mustard seeds, fry the bengal gram dal, peanuts, curry leaves, add hing, turmeric, tamarind extract, salt and let it boil for 5 minutes.

5. Now add the finely ground dry powder and then add this mixture to the cooked rice and mix evenly.

6. Now add the coarsely ground dhal powder.

Serve hot with kutiurulai curry or potato chips.

Tastes yummy with Kondai Kadalai Sundal.
